Project: Lord Of The Rings

Introduction

OK. Decided it's time my son had his own PC at home (he is 8 now - time for his 3rd machine I think - can't have him turning out any less a geek than his father). OK OK - so it's an excuse to spend a couple hundred quid on a new mod - but the boss doesnt have to know that - she just thinks I'm doing something special for my little boy (which I am, as well as getting to play)

Just throwing some ideas around at the moment. He's a big Lord Of The Rings fan, so we (he) decided that was going to be the basis of the whole project, although I need to find it a proper name yet.

Initial ideas as follows.
Full paint job - externally a light-dark sandy fade, internally probably black to show off the bits and pieces. Thinking for now of having the fade work with the dark at the bottom and rear, light at the top and front, to make matching up bezels etc easier.
Lighting - going with a yellow cathode (closest I can get to gold) and also going to replace all of the LEDs on the front with yellow ones. Also considering embedding half a dozen LEDs in the bottom of the window to reflect on some text I'm planning on etching/getting etched into it - you know the weird swirly writing in the ring that glows - well I was thinking about trying to make a similar effect with the LEDS and etch. QUESTION: Anyone know of somewhere which will custom etch a window for me - not a stick on job - need actual etching for the LED lighting to really pick it up)

Yellow rounded cables, 120mm intake on the front - considering a custom grille with a pair of crossed swords. Maplin has some nice grilles for building your own speakers I was thinkin about toying with. Window will be a round one - has the double advantage of not showing off the boring old Optical drives and PSU and also being round is kinda ring-ish (well thats the theory anyway). As for the main case, planning on an el-cheapo £9 job I can get sans PSU as I fully expect to end up chucking the first one in the bin after many many experiments so keeping it cheap. Also considering a coolermaster musketeer mainly because they're way too gimmicky to ever go in one of my super serious pcs, but he's 8 so will like it QUESTION 2 - anyone ever ripped one to bits to see if you can change the colour of the lighting? Big blue dials will NOT match the case - wondering if there is a way to change out the LEDS (not scared of getting stuck in with a soldering iron).

The idea overall is to produce something pretty slick, in earthy tones with a healthy golden glow to it.

Yes, if you use the forums at moddin.net you have read this before - I wrote it out once - didnt see the point of rewriting it again to put it here.
