Douglas Adams - The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy ...an increasingly inaccurately named trilogy of 5 (alas never to grow further as Douglas died recently. The series follows the adventures (maybe misadventures would be a better word) of one Arthur Dent, who wakes up one morning to the double dose of bad news that one, his house is about to be demolished to make way for a new bypass, and then two, the Earth is about the be demolished to make way for a new hyperspace bypass...
